The records of the MIT Neurosciences Research Program (NRP) cover the period of the Program's affiliation with MIT, 1962 to 1982. Over half of the collection is in the form of reel to reel tapes of the NRP's scientific sessions. The remainder of the collection contains correspondence, memoranda, reports, grant proposals, programs of NRP scientific sessions, and group photographs of NRP participants, relating to the NRP's scientific, administrative, and organizational activities. The NRP's emphasis was on conceptual and theoretical work and thus this collection contains little if any scientific data. The records of the NRP have largely been kept as they were maintained at the NRP Center.
The primary strengths of this collection are its documentation of the development of the neurosciences, 1962-1982; the history of the NRP at MIT, 1962-1982; and Francis O. Schmitt's scientific activities as part of the NRP, 1962-1982.
